We Compared the Best-Selling Large Print Bibles of 2026. Here's the Best One for Christians Over 60
The 5 Bibles we compared.
Only about 1 in 10 Americans has ever read the whole Bible.
And for Christians over 60, the reason usually isn't faith. It's the book. The print is too small, the pages are too thin to write on, and the passages are hard to follow without help.
So our editors asked one question:
What's the best Bible a regular 60-year-old Christian can buy in 2026, not to keep on the shelf, but to actually read every day?
We went through the large print best-seller lists at Amazon, Walmart, Christianbook and Books-A-Million. We picked the 5 Bibles that stood out, and we put them side by side to see which one is best for readers over 60:
- Perfect Bible
- Holman KJV Giant Print Reference Bible
- Christian Art Gifts KJV Giant Print Full-Size Bible
- NIV Life Application Study Bible, Large Print
- Holman KJV Large Print Thinline Bible
We compared them on the 8 things that decide whether a Bible gets read:
- 1Print size. Which one really has the largest print?
- 2Paper quality. Our bleed-through test with a highlighter and a pen.
- 3Size and weight. Can you hold it on your lap?
- 4Margins. Is there room to write a prayer next to a verse?
- 5Study tools. Will you understand what you read?
- 6Page tabs. Can you find a book fast?
- 7Cover. Will it last, and does it feel like yours?
- 8Price. What you'll actually pay today.

*Per book. Perfect Bible is split into smaller books, so each one stays light. See the verdict.
It's the only Bible here that pairs 14-point print with thick, write-in pages, wide margins and study help you can actually read, in a book light enough to hold in one hand. It's also the only one of the five that comes with a Verse Explainer app, which explains any verse in plain English.
Our ranking:
- Perfect Bible. Best for reading and understanding every day.
- Holman KJV Giant Print Reference. Big print and a full reference Bible, but heavy.
- Christian Art Gifts KJV Giant Print. Tied for the biggest print, but heavy and with no study help.
- NIV Life Application Study Bible, Large Print. The most study notes, but 10.75-point print and 4.7 lb.
- Holman KJV Large Print Thinline. Light and handy, but the print is barely large.

Continue reading: how each Bible scored, and why
Below, we go through all 8 comparisons in detail: what to look for, why it matters after 60, and how each of the five Bibles did. Every spec comes from the publisher's or a major retailer's listing.
Print size: which one really has the largest print?
Large print (left) next to a regular Bible's small print (right).
"Large print" on a cover can mean almost anything. A regular Bible is usually set in 8 or 9 points. Publishers call 10 to 12 points "large print" and 13 points and up "giant print," but the label is up to the publisher, and there's no rule for how big "large" has to be.
After 60, most of us need more light and bigger letters to read comfortably, and every point counts. 14-point type is about a third bigger than 10.5-point. That's the difference between reading in your favorite chair and reaching for a magnifier. Here's what each Bible really uses:
- ✓Perfect Bible: 14 pt. Big, dark King James text in one easy-to-follow column, with room between the lines. You can read it at a normal distance, without holding the page at arm's length.
- ✓Christian Art Gifts Giant Print: 14 pt. Just as big, set in two columns with the words of Christ in red. The cost of that big print is the size of the book: 1,400 pages.
- ✓Holman Giant Print Reference: 13 pt. A true giant print, one size down. The two columns are broken up by cross-references after every paragraph, which takes some getting used to.
- ✗NIV Life Application, Large Print: 10.75 pt. "Large print" in name only. The Bible text is only a little bigger than a regular Bible, and the study notes around it are smaller still.
- ✗Holman Large Print Thinline: 10.5 pt. Barely bigger than a regular Bible. Small print is how it stays thin.
Paper: the bleed-through test
One stroke of highlighter, and it shows on the other side of thin Bible paper.
In the US, paper is measured in pounds, written with a # sign: the weight of 500 full-size sheets. The rest of the world uses gsm, grams per square meter. Either way, the higher the number, the thicker the page and the less shows through.
Everyday book paper is about #50 to #60. To fit 1,000 to 3,000 pages into one book, most Bibles use "Bible paper" of only about #19 to #24 (28 to 36 gsm), less than half as thick. That's why a yellow highlighter or a ballpoint pen shows straight through, and the verse on the back gets hard to read. Publishers rarely print the exact number, so the figures for the other four are typical for their kind of Bible.
- ✓Perfect Bible: #60 paper (about 89 gsm), around three times as thick as typical Bible paper. It's made for writing: highlight and write in pen without it showing through.
- ✗Holman Giant Print Reference: about #20. 1,728 pages of thin Bible paper. Highlighters ghost through to the next page.
- ✗Christian Art Gifts Giant Print: about #20. 1,400 pages of thin Bible paper with gilded edges. Pretty, but pens show through.
- ✗NIV Life Application, Large Print: about #19. 3,264 pages in one book, so the paper has to be very thin. Highlighter shows on the back.
- ✗Holman Large Print Thinline: about #19. Thin paper is the point of a thinline. Pen and highlighter both show through.
Weight: can you hold it on your lap?
A full giant print Bible gets heavy on your lap.
Big print takes more pages, and more pages means more weight. A complete giant print or study Bible usually weighs 2 to 5 pounds, as much as a bag of sugar.
That matters more than it sounds. Reading in a chair or in bed, you hold the book up for 20 or 30 minutes at a time, and tired wrists give up before tired eyes do. If a Bible is too heavy for that, it ends up on the table, and then on the shelf. Here's what each one weighs:
- ✓Perfect Bible: 1.4 lb per book, the lightest of the five, because the Bible is split into smaller books. You only hold the book you're reading, in one hand.
- ✓Holman Large Print Thinline: about 1.5 lb and about 1 inch thick. Easy to carry, but only because the print is small.
- ✗Christian Art Gifts Giant Print: about 2.2 lb, 9.7 x 6.7 x 1.5 inches.
- ✗Holman Giant Print Reference: about 2.5 lb and 1.5 inches thick, with 1,728 pages.
- ✗NIV Life Application, Large Print: about 4.7 lb for the hardcover and nearly 3 inches thick, as heavy as a laptop.
Margins: is there room to write back to God?
When there's no room to write, notes end up squeezed between the lines.
Writing a prayer, a date or a name next to a verse is how a Bible becomes yours. Years later, those notes are what you and your family treasure most: the verse you held on to the week of a diagnosis, or the morning a grandchild was born.
But to save pages, most Bibles run two columns of text close to the edge of the page. There's room for a check mark, not a prayer.
- ✓Perfect Bible: wide margins on every page, with lines and prompts beside the text, so there's always room for a prayer or a note.
- ✗Holman Giant Print Reference: two columns of big print fill the page, leaving a narrow outer margin.
- ✗Christian Art Gifts Giant Print: two columns and a narrow margin. Room for a word or two, not a prayer.
- ✗NIV Life Application, Large Print: the side column holds cross-references and most pages end in study notes, so there's almost no blank space.
- ✗Holman Large Print Thinline: tight margins to keep the book slim.
Study tools: will you understand what you read?
Plenty of study notes, but in very small type.
"I read a whole chapter and couldn't tell you what it said." Sound familiar? The Bible was written thousands of years ago, in a very different world, and a lot of it makes more sense when someone explains who wrote it, to whom, and why.
That's what study tools are for: notes, book introductions, maps and cross-references. But they only help if you can read them. Here's what comes with each Bible:
- ✓NIV Life Application, Large Print: the most help of any Bible here. Over 10,000 notes, 100+ profiles of Bible people, 500+ maps and charts, an introduction with an outline and timeline for every book, a subject index and a dictionary-concordance. But it's all in small type, and most of the notes are smaller than the 10.75-point text.
- ✓Perfect Bible: every book opens with an introduction (who wrote it, why, the main message and what to look for). A study guide with guided questions sits beside the text, and the Verse Explainer app explains any verse in plain English. None of the other four has one.
- ✓Holman Giant Print Reference: cross-references after every paragraph, a concordance to look up any word, topical headings and full-color maps. Good for looking things up, but no explanations.
- ✗Christian Art Gifts Giant Print: a thematic verse finder and a one-year reading plan, but no notes or explanations.
- ✗Holman Large Print Thinline: a "Where to Turn" list of verses for life's problems and full-color maps. No notes.
Page tabs: can you find Romans in time?
Without tabs, finding Romans means flipping pages while everyone else is already reading.
When the pastor says "turn to Romans 8," you want to get there before he starts reading. With 66 books, many with similar names (1 and 2 Kings, 1 and 2 Chronicles, Philippians and Philemon), that's harder than it sounds without tabs.
There are two kinds: thumb-index tabs, the half-moon cuts in the page edge, and tabs printed on the edge of the pages.
- ✓Perfect Bible: book tabs printed down the edge of every page, so you can see where each book starts without opening it.
- ✓Holman Giant Print, Christian Art Gifts and NIV Life Application: thumb-index tabs, the half-moon cuts in the page edge with each book's name.
- ✗Holman Thinline: no tabs. You flip and search.
Cover: will it last, and does it feel like yours?
Bonded leather covers on many Bibles crack and peel with daily use.
A Bible you read every day gets opened thousands of times, carried to church and packed in a bag. Cheap bonded leather, which is leather scraps glued onto a backing, is usually what cracks and peels first.
The good news is that all five of these are built to last. The difference is whether it feels like yours:
- ✓Perfect Bible: a sturdy hardcover with your name printed on it, which also makes it a gift your grandchildren will keep. It's the only one with a name included.
- ✓Holman Giant Print and Holman Thinline: LeatherTouch, a soft imitation leather that wears well.
- ✓Christian Art Gifts Giant Print: faux leather with a gold-foiled title and gilded page edges.
- ✓NIV Life Application: a hardcover with a printed dust jacket.

The verdict: Perfect Bible is the best large print Bible for Christians over 60 in 2026
It won or tied all 8 of our comparisons. It has the print of a giant print Bible, room to write, and study help you can actually read, in a book you can hold in one hand. And it's the only Bible we tested with a Verse Explainer app: point it at any verse and it explains it in plain English.
Please note: Perfect Bible is split into smaller books, so you get large print and premium paper and can still carry it around.
